Nick’s experience in the profession spans some twenty years and includes working in each facet of the law: for the Bar (as a clerk to chambers), for the Bench (as a District Court Judge’s Associate) and as a lawyer.
Nick has focused his skills in commercial litigation and advice, including building and construction disputes, transport law, insurance litigation (including public liability and aviation claims), estate disputes, employment (industrial) disputes and alternative dispute resolution.
Nick has extensive advocacy experience in all jurisdictions including the Supreme, District and Local Courts, Consumer Trader & Tenancy Tribunal and Industrial Relations Commission (both Federal and State).
His non-litigious commercial experience includes all property transactions, acquisitions and disposals of businesses including hotels, commercial and retail lease agreements, the preparation of loan and other security documents, employee agreements and restraints and advices in relation to indemnity, liability and quantum.
Nick strives to provide the best assistance available to all of his clients, by ensuring that he provides timely and accurate advice while ensuring that his clients are fully informed.
Nick joined Burke Elphick & Mead™ from Sydney, via Orange. He has found the move to be an instant success and looks forward to settling in to Newcastle with his lovely wife and children.

Ana has been practising law for over ten years, predominantly in the areas of civil, commercial and estate litigation. Her experience has included representing her clients’ interests in the District and Supreme Courts as well as the Court of Appeal in New South Wales, Western Australia and South Australia.

Kara Greiner – Lawyer

Following a period as the associate to His Honour Justice Gyles of the Federal Court, Kara practised as a criminal lawyer with the Marsdens Law Group. It was at Marsdens’ Campbelltown office that Kara and Michael Burke first worked together as part of a Criminal Law team.
Practising in both the south-west and inner city of Sydney, Kara has represented clients in all criminal jurisdictional levels including the Local, District and Supreme courts, the ICAC, Mental Health Review Tribunal, Children’s Court and the Parole Board.
Kara has experience in matters ranging from drink driving and possession of drugs through to more complex matters such as murder, importation of heroin and corporate fraud.
Regardless of the seriousness of the offence involved, Kara approaches each matter with the same level of dedication and intensity – whether it is a traffic matter or a terrorism offence. She has enjoyed working alongside and instructing some of Australia’s leading barristers.
Outside of Court, Kara pursues interests in writing, radio, music and television. She is a member of the Sydney Theatre Company’s youth fund raising committee “Sticky” and a volunteer at Sydney radio station FBi.

Ashley Bithrey – Lawyer

Ashley grew up in Tamworth NSW and is a member of our Family Law team.
Ashley works closely with Merridy in the conduct of all Family Law matters including divorce applications, property, parenting disputes and child support. Ashley is also a member of the Legal Aid panel for Family Law.
Ashley’s skills as a keen advocate are an asset to the Family Law team and the clients he appears for. Ashley recognises that proper presentation of the client’s case in court is one of the most crucial factors in the successful outcome of a case.
In addition, Ashley accepts instructions in agency matters in a wide range of jurisdictions. He has experience appearing in the Local, District, Federal and Family Courts.
During his time at university Ashley was a member of the Law Students’ Association and represented his University at the Australian Law Students’ Association Witness Examination Competition in Hobart. Ashley continues to maintain an involvement with the University and contributes to publications when called upon by the Law Students’ Association.
When he is not working Ashley enjoys keeping fit as well as playing guitar. He is an avid follower of Rugby Union and also enjoys fishing when weather and time permit.

Alice grew up in Dungog NSW and is part of the Burke Elphick & Mead™ Insurance Law Team.
Alice works directly with our Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law, Emma Mead, and clients who inquire about compensation, motor vehicle and insurance matters are likely to have the pleasure of dealing with Alice.
With excellent communication skills Alice is able to assist our clients to undertake the task of documenting the traumatic events that have affected their life.
Alice first came to the notice of Michael Burke by the recommendation of a trusted colleague. She joined us to undertake a number of hours of practical legal training as part of her studies and quickly demonstrated a passion for the law while maintaining empathy for our clients. It did not take long to realise that Alice would be a great fit for our Insurance Law team.
